Collins A24 A4 Series Analysis Book Feint Ruled - 10200

The Collins A24 A4 Series Analysis Account Book Feint Ruled is the plain-lined record format in the Collins A24 range. Where the other A24 analysis books carry pre-ruled money columns, this book carries horizontal ruled lines only — free-form lined pages the user adapts to any record-keeping task. "Feint" ruling means lines are lightly printed so they guide handwriting without dominating the page. No pre-set columns. No fixed category headings. The user writes their own layout: dates, descriptions, amounts in any format the record requires.

FEINT RULED — WHEN IT'S THE RIGHT CHOICE

  • Feint ruled = horizontal lines only, no vertical column dividers — the user draws their own column structure if needed, or records entries across the full line in narrative format
  • Best for narrative records — journal entries with descriptions of debit and credit; correspondence registers with subject and action; complaint or incident logs with variable detail; site diaries; project notes
  • Best when each record is unique — petty cash diaries, income/expense diaries, asset registers, visitor logs all benefit from a flexible lined format rather than pre-set columns
  • Money-column books are better when categories are fixed and repeated — for multi-category analysis, choose the A24 4-, 10-, 12-, 13-, 14- or 18-column book; for free-form and narrative records, choose this book

CASH BOOKS AND SIMPLE BOOKKEEPING

  • Single-entry cash book — Date / Particulars / Debit / Credit / Balance, with the user drawing column dividers to suit their description column width; running balance visible at the bottom of each page; traditional single-entry format for simple businesses, sole traders and individuals
  • Petty cash diary (narrative) — each petty cash payment recorded with date, description and amount; no columnar analysis needed; simple running record
  • Income diary (sole traders, freelancers, tradespeople) — each invoice or payment received recorded with date, client name, description of work and amount; ATO record-keeping requirements for sole traders satisfied by a consistent income record; entries vary in length and don't fit rigid columns
  • Expense diary — business expenses in date order with description, supplier and amount; source document for BAS and tax return preparation; ATO requires expense records for 5 years (or 7 for more complex obligations)

GENERAL JOURNALS AND FORMAL ACCOUNTS

  • General journal — traditional debit/credit bookkeeping journal; date, description of debit entry, description of credit entry, amounts; narrative format doesn't fit money columns; feint-ruled pages accommodate the full narration of each transaction including account names and cross-references
  • Accounts payable/receivable in list format — simple listing of amounts owed to or by trading accounts; date, invoice number, amount, payment status; user creates their own column structure for a small set of accounts
  • Brought-forward records — opening balance, period movements, closing balance carried forward

REGISTERS AND ADMINISTRATIVE RECORDS

  • Asset register — date acquired, description, cost, depreciation method, rate, written-down value at year end; ATO requires capital asset records for the period held plus 5 years after disposal
  • Stock/inventory record — stock item, quantity in, quantity out, balance on hand; for businesses with modest stock ranges
  • Membership or subscriber register — member name, contact details, class, subscription, renewal dates; reference for AGMs, communications and financial reconciliation
  • Correspondence register — date, correspondent, subject, action required or taken
  • Visitor log / appointment register — date, time, visitor name, company, purpose, person seen
  • Project or job notes — site diary, observations, decisions, instructions; a dated record of how the project was managed
