Staedtler Ruler Scale Triangular

The Staedtler 561 98-2BK triangular scale ruler carries six DIN-standard detail scales — 1:20, 1:25, 1:33-1/3, 1:50, 1:75 and 1:100 — on a single three-sided instrument. Where the companion Staedtler triangular ruler (SKU 61 98-4BK) covers the wider planning and overview scales from 1:100 to 1:500, this ruler is the detail end of the range. These are the scales used when drawing components, assemblies, sections, elevations and construction details at a size that shows enough information to build or fabricate from. Together the two rulers cover the full span of scales required for architectural and engineering documentation from site plan to shop drawing.

SIX DETAIL SCALES ON ONE INSTRUMENT

Each of the three faces carries two scales running in opposite directions, making all six accessible by rotation alone. The scales included — 1:20, 1:25, 1:33-1/3, 1:50, 1:75 and 1:100 — are the working scales for drawings that need to convey construction, fabrication or assembly detail. A 1:50 section shows a room in enough detail to communicate ceiling heights, wall thicknesses and door reveals. A 1:20 detail shows a junction, window frame or structural connection at a size where individual components are clearly dimensioned and readable. The 1:33-1/3 scale, while less common in purely architectural work, appears in some engineering and services drawing standards.

THE DETAIL END OF THE ARCHITECTURAL AND ENGINEERING SCALE RANGE

In architectural practice, most projects require drawings at both overview and detail scales. The overview scales (1:100 to 1:500) establish the layout, relationships and context of a design. The detail scales (1:20 to 1:100) show how things are built, connected and finished. This ruler covers the latter — the drawings that builders, fabricators, contractors and subcontractors work from on site and in workshops. Architecture and drafting students will recognise these as the scales required for detail sheets, section details, joinery drawings and construction documentation across most Australian vocational and university curriculum requirements.

PRECISION INSTRUMENT FROM STAEDTLER

Staedtler is a German precision drawing instrument brand. The triangular scale ruler is produced to consistent graduation standards with clear, high-contrast black markings against the ruler body. The triangular section sits stably on a drawing board and is easy to pick up from a flat surface without rolling. DIN-compliant scale spacing means measurements taken from this ruler are directly applicable to drawings produced under Australian Standards drafting conventions.
